Bollywood movie industry is evolving with changing times. From the 1960s, the industry has achieved major commercial success more regularly and the revenue earned multiplied manifold. Not only have the scale of the movies increased but also the budget of the movies have increased significantly and thus the Hindi film industry is one of the world’s largest film production center. Many films over the last few decades have redefined norms and taken the industry a step closer to where it stands now. Right from 1960's where Mughal-e-Azam shattered box office records, followed by Sholay in 70's which redefined how success smells. Be it a loud jazzy movie with a bollywood dulhan running away from marriage in her perfect wedding costume or a hero flighting 200 villians, every movie has got it's own secret formula of success. The industry has not only evolved due to piracy threats and tough competition but also improved significantly with the technology used in movies now-a-days. These days the stage is set now so that the Bollywood movies can start competing with Hollywood movies in terms of reach and box office earnings. The recent hits in Baahubali 2 and Dangal are great examples of the changing trends. Both the movies have easily crossed the 1000 crore mark, which seemed quite impossible a decade ago. We are entering a phase where the filmmakers are focussing on delivering more quality content embedded with rich visuals and great story lines. This is different than the traditional way of making movies in India where the movies are stuffed with few steamy kissing scenes and bollywood actresses dressed in short outfits. Few other movies that made it big purely on it's unique content was Aamir Khan's PK and 3 idiots. Both the movies were directed by ace director Rajkumar Hirani and carried a social message which resonated quite well with the audience. PK's gross worldwide collections were closed to 470 crores which was a record at the time. The film stars Aamir Khan in the title part, with Anushka Sharma, Sushant Singh Rajput, Boman Irani, Saurabh Shukla, and Sanjay Dutt in supporting parts. PK opened in 22 universal markets amid its opening end of the week and earned $28.7 million setting at #3 at the overall film industry behind The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies and Gone with the Bullets. In North America, the film set an opening end of the week record with $3.75 million (already held by Dhoom 3) setting at #10 in the cinema world. Talking about high grossed movies, how can we not mention Salman Khan's Bajraangi bhaijaan that released on Edi 2015 and become the first Bollywood film of 2015 to cross ₹300 crore with its net collection at the domestic box office. The movie took just 9 days to earn ₹200 crore from its domestic box office run. It is the third fastest film after “PK” and “Dhoom 3” to earn ₹200 crore in just nine days. Although Akshay's Kumar movies also do good business but numbers are no where close to the money made by the movies of the Khan's. Salman khan's latest venture Sultan also made it big at box office. Sultan is salman sports based movie and was directed by Ali zafar under yash raj banners. The movie also starred Anushka Sharma and bhai's fans absolutely loved his new avatar. Sultan overall collection were well above 500 crores. Aamir Khan and Katrina Kaif starrer Dhoom 3 also shattered all records in India and abroad. Dhoom 3 turned into the most noteworthy earning Bollywood film in India and around the globe by gathering more than 533 cr (US$85 million) worldwide in only two weeks.
